You don’t have to be a scripture scholar or even a regular attendee at synagogue or Sunday school to know the basics of the story of King David at his lowest. David, once a sweet shepherd boy and musician of note, as a monarch is disgustingly power-thirsty. In possession of more wives and concubines than anyone in his kingdom he still wants more. Insatiable sex-addicted perv that he is, he takes a liking to his star general’s only (from all indications) wife. She, Bathsheba, doesn’t discourage the royal dalliance or what ensues. Hoping to hide their adultery from as many of his subjects as possible by turning Bathsheba into a widow, he sends General Uriah to the front lines of a war knowing that anyone who goes there will likely be killed. All went according to plan, and Uriah became a casualty at the siege of Rabbah. Bathsheba in mourning wore a black negligee to bed with her notch-conscious king.

There was absolutely no legitimate reason the decorated general needed to die. Not that he had a choice because of David’s avarice, but Uriah was brave and loyal so off to war he went.

In our milieu, our sex-crazed First Felon has no regret for his lifetime of sexual abuse, but to try to grasp at a bit of any possibility of popularity, he sends the wives and husbands, daughters and sons, sisters and brothers of his MAGAt base into all manner of war with Iran—knowing untold numbers of them have died and will die needlessly. And the MAGAts only love him more even at the funeral chapel or Dover Air Force base—the coffined bodies of their relatives before them.

In the end, though his evil could not be undone, David did rediscover his long lost conscience and was overcome with remorse—though only after the Prophet Nathan called him out. Trump in contrast has no conscience and for that matter no soul. He doesn’t care who’s dead for no other reason than to buy him some more distraction time. At this point and in this way the parallels fail. David repented. Trump never will.
